Vehicle Excise Duty Exemption For Disabled People

That this House condemns the Department of Transport for removing as from October 1993 vehicle excise duty exemption for disabled people in receipt of attendance allowance or high or middle rate care component of disability allowance, thereby imposing an upper age limit of 65 years on those who could receive a free road fund licence; further condemns the Department of Transport for not publicising adequately the change in the rules for vehicle excise duty; and calls upon the Government to takes steps to reinstate the scheme as it existed before 13th October 1993.
