Snp And European Allies;amdt. Line 1:
EDM number 924A1 in 1993-94, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 23/03/1994.
leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that to combat rising neo-fascism in Europe it is important that democrat parties do not indulge in puerile mud slinging which only gives comfort to democracy's' enemies; believes the need to fight fascism and racism are too important for Labour and Liberal Democrat politicians to associate these terms with the Scottish Nationalist Party whose democratic, anti-racist and anti-fascist credentials are impeccable or with the European Free Alliance, an association of twenty-four democratic European parties, whose founding principles are non-violence and respect for individual and collective human rights; notes with approval that the entire EFA European Parliamentary group were strong supporters of the report from Labour Euro MP, Glyn Ford, on action on racism and xenophobia; is aware that the Legha Nord were described in the Guardian of November 1993 as 'the opposite of fascism'; is mindful that the Legha Nord's tough anti-Mafia stance makes them almost alone in being untainted by corruption scandals which have plunged Italian politics into confusion; further notes that the Legha Nord are suspended from the EFA until the Electoral Position in Italy is clarified; and cautions Labour politicians against pursuing a smear of guilt by Italian association given that hundreds of Italian Socialist Party members are facing trial for corruption and Mafia links and that the former Secretary General, Prime Minister and Vice President of the Socialist Internation, B. Craxi, faces charges involving sums of up to 80 million pounds.'.
