Water And Sewerage Charges In Wales

EDM number 911 in 1993-94, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 22/03/1994.

That this House notes that for the current year 1993-94, the average charge by Dwr Cymru for unmetered water and sewerage services was ú233 per household, compared with a charge of ú116 in Scotland for a two adult household, reflecting the cost of a private sector monopoly business in relation to a public sector service; further notes that for 1994-95 the projected average charge for water and sewerage in Wales will be ú256 per household, an increase of 9.8 per cent.; recalls that the formula for limiting the increase in such charges, RPI + K, allows for an increase of 6.4 per cent. in Wales for the coming year; and calls on OFWAT to investigate the excessively high charges for water and sewerage in Wales with a view to securing a substantial reduction.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
