Veracity Of Parliamentary Answers
EDM number 884 in 1993-94, proposed by John Evans on 16/03/1994.
That this House notes that the answer given by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Employment, the honourable Member for Maidstone, to the honourable Member for St. Helens North, at Employment Oral Questions on 15th March, that the claimant measure and the ILO recommended measure both showed falling unemployment in the United Kingdom at about 2.8 million bore absolutely no relation whatsoever to the Question on the Order Paper, which asked what was the total number of people unemployed in the United Kingdom including those unemployed and not receiving unemployment benefit; and believes that Ministers who give inaccurate answers to the House bring Parliament into contempt and are not fit to hold office.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
