North West Water

EDM number 88 in 1993-94, proposed by Gerald Kaufman on 25/11/1993.

That this House notes the sudden departure of the Chief Executive of North West Water; notes that this person was remunerated at the preposterous rate of ú200,000 a year and may now receive a severance payment of ú600,000; compares these sums of money with the modest incomes with which most customers of North West Water have to make do; notes further several recent breakdowns in water supply in the Gorton constituency which have affected large numbers of residents and business people and which have been dealt with inefficiently and sometimes discourteously; calls upon the new Chief Executive to concentrate on providing efficiently the basic services which North West Water presumably is in existence to supply; and in addition calls upon the new Chief Executive once and for all to abandon plans for the speculative, uncosted and environmentally damaging Kingswater Park business park scheme.
