European Citizens And The Right To Vote

That this House observes that more than two years have elapsed since Her Majesty's Government signed the Maastricht Treaty and that this House ratified the Treaty months ago; notes with dismay the extensive tardiness and total inadequacy of the measures recently announced by Her Majesty's Government to inform continental EU citizens resident in the United Kingdom of their right to register to vote in the forthcoming European elections; calls on Her Majesty's Government to take immediate steps to publicise by public advertisement. in all 10 EU working languages in all newspapers published daily in the United Kingdom, the deadline of 29th March for registration and procedures for registration; and further calls on Her Majesty's Government to allow an extension to this deadline to allow all EU citizens to exercise their democratic rights as provided by the Maastricht Treaty on European union.
