Space In The Palace Of Westminster
EDM number 862 in 1993-94, proposed by Harry Barnes on 15/03/1994.
That this House notes that, according to a parliamentary answer given to the honourable Member for North East Derbyshire on 14th March, Official Report, columns 512-3, 10 private organisations currently occupy 852.5 square metres of space in the Palace of Westminster free of any rental charge; further notes that, despite the efforts for nearly 25 years of many people who work or have worked in the Palace of Westminster, no space has yet been found or is allocated in planned developments for a day nursery for the children of honourable Members and those who work here; and calls upon the House authorities to find the political will to seek the necessary accommodation for the long overdue provision of a day nursery which would be a good example to other employers, enhance equal opportunities and reduce staff turnover.
