Hon Member For Hamilton And Democratic Debate
EDM number 826 in 1993-94, proposed by Alex Salmond on 11/03/1994.
That this House condemns the refusal of the honourable Member for Hamilton to debate on the BBC Today programme on 11th March with the honourable Member for Banff and Buchan on the subject of Labour's change of name in Scotland; believes that a refusal to enter democratic debate betrays a fundamental lack of confidence in a political position; notes that despite the attempt at a cosmetic Scottish identity Labour remains a London based party; and further notes that the honourable Member for Hamilton's dismal leadership satisfaction rating of minus eight per cent. revealed in the Scotsman ICM poll of 9th March will be further reduced by pulling the plug on radio debates.
