Karamjit Singh Chahal (No. 3)

That this House notes the further undertaking given by the Home Secretary on 1st March, not to authorise the removal of Karamjit Singh Chahal from the United Kingdom until the Home Secretary receives the result of Mr. Chahal's legal challenge with the European Court of Human Rights; and again urges the Home Secretary, in view of the fact that ECHR proceedings may be protracted and that Mr. Chahal has been in Bedford Prison since August 1990, although convicted of no crime in the United Kingdom, to grant Mr. Chahal bail, even on a strict reporting basis, so that he may be re-united with his wife and two British-born children in Luton.
