Hoover Free Flight Promotion
EDM number 820 in 1993-94, proposed by John Evans on 11/03/1994.
That this House believes that the Hoover company's free flight to America promotion was a wicked confidence trick perpetrated by an unscrupulous company, who have used every loophole and legalistic trick to avoid honouring their side of a bargain with an unsuspecting public they made with thousands of customers; notes, for instance, that when the wife of the honourable Member for St. Helens North purchased a Hoover appliance in February 1993 she gave Hoover three separate flight dates, April 1993, October 1993 and January 1994 and three different departure airports: Manchester, Gatwick and Glasgow; further notes that despite such a wide choice Hoover made no attempt to honour any of these dates but made an entirely unacceptable three choice offer of 25th or 26th or 27th January 1994 and subsequently insisted that the making of an utterly unusable offer conluded their obligations; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to outlaw any further such disreputable and dishonourable promotions.
