Us Congressman Request For Hearings On Implications Of Thorp

That this House welcomes the initiative on 20th November by Congressman Pete Stark, Democrat, California, to request the Chairman of the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, Representative David Obey, that the Committee hold early hearings on the economic and national security implications of plutonium use in the light of the imminent decision over THORP; applauds his judgement that this is an opportune moment for Congress to focus on the issue more closely; calls upon the Trade & Industry Select Committee and Foreign Affairs Select Committee to follow suit and arrange immediate parallel inquiries into THORP; and further calls upon Her Majesty's Government not to take any decision on THORP until these committee enquiries report.
