Humanism
EDM number 738 in 1993-94, proposed by Graham Allen on 03/03/1994.
That this House believes that humanism is a code of moral values and ethics which encourages respect for those holding different beliefs and the development of the ability to make reasoned and informed judgments about religious and moral issues; notes that humanism has secular equivalents to practices which have a religious background, such as the marriage service and the taking of an oath; and encourages the inclusion of humanism in locally agreed syllabuses on religious education.
