That this House notes that up ot 250,000 lone mothers, depending partly on family credit, will find their maintenance payments from their former partners reduced as a result of the introduction, on 7th February, of new DSS regulations designed to reduce the amounts which men must pay their partners through the Child Support Agency; understands that the Treasury will not finance adjustments to make up the incomes of lone mothers until current assessments of family credit for a six-month period have been completed; notes that many thousands of women will lose hundreds of pounds unless the gap is filled; calls on the Secretary of State for Social Security to inform the House how many women will be affected by the measures introduced on 7th February and how much money these women will lose as a result; and calls on the Treasury to provide funds to ensure that no lone parent suffers a drop in income following a change in the Child Support Agency regime.
