Child Support Act Changes And Family Credit Claimants
EDM number 725 in 1993-94, proposed by Terry Rooney on 02/03/1994.
That this House notes the changes to the Child Support Act 1991 which became effective on 7th February 1994; notes that these will significantly reduce maintenance payments by absent parents; further notes that tens of thousands of family credit claimants have had benefit entitlement assessed on the basics of higher maintenance income; recognises that family credit is only re-assessed every 26 weeks and that large numbers of people are severely disadvantaged by these rule changes; and calls on the Secretary of State for Social Security to introduce interim measures to protect the innocent victims of these changes.
