British Geological Society, Aberystwyth
EDM number 717 in 1993-94, proposed by Kim Howells on 02/03/1994.
That this House notes that the British Geological Society have been requested to postpone the closure of their Wales Office at Aberystwyth for one year so as to provide an opportunity for the work of that Office to be enhanced and developed, particularly through closer collaboration with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Welsh local authorities and environmental organisations; notes further that the St. Dogmaels landslip has illustrated vividly the need for increased geological surveying and interpretative activity in Wales; regards the disgracefully low level of Natural Environmental Research Council expenditure in Wales as constituting discrimination against the needs of Wales; welcomes the overwhelming support for the retention of the Office among informed opinion in Wales; and calls upon the British Geological Society to accede to this moderate and eminently reasonable request.
This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
