Evening Classes And Unemployment Benefit - Case Of Mr Morgan Of Kidsgrove
EDM number 694 in 1993-94, proposed by Joan Walley on 01/03/1994.
That this House congratulates Mr Morgan of Kidsgrove who, determined to enhance his skills for the purpose of furthering his employment prospects and to update his existing qualifications by undertaking a metallic gas argon shielded welding course and mindful of his citizen's rights to attend at his own expense evening classes at Stoke on Trent College, appealed against the decision by the Secretary of State for Employment to deny him unemployment benefit on the basis that attendance at the evening classes for two two hour sessions rendered him unavailable for work; calls on the Government to say how many people in similar circumstances have had their benefit withdrawn; applauds Mr Morgan for exposing yet another attempt by the Government to remove basic citizen's rights; and wishes him good luck in his future employment.
