Mountain Rescue Services
EDM number 689 in 1993-94, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 28/02/1994.
That this House congratulates all volunteer members of mountain rescue teams and professionals from the search and rescue service of the Royal Air Force who selflessly assist those in danger; recognises that their work is arduous, difficult and effective; draws attention to the fact that volunteers give willingly of their own time and resources to train to high standards of mountain craft and that Royal Air Force teams use their training expertise to assist at all times when required; rejects proposals for compulsory insurance schemes for climbers and hill-walkers; believes that the challenge of mountains is an inalienable civic right available to all; notes that insurance schemes are contrary to the wishes of volunteers and professionals alike; and rejects proposals for restricted access.
