Labour Councillor And Racism In Tower Hamlets
EDM number 682 in 1993-94, proposed by David Rendel on 24/02/1994.
That this House notes the minutes of the Millwall Labour Party meeting on 14th October 1993 where a Labour councillor is recorded as accusing her own campaign of racist tactics in the Millwall by-election in the words 'Councillor Amor felt there was not sufficient anti-BNP content in the leaflets. She did no work at all during the campaign because she felt the first leaflet (on housing) was racist and attacked housing policy'; further notes the continued failure of the Labour Party to address the accusations of racism in their literature; congratulates the London Liberal Democrats for their immediate action, open enquiry and subsequent appointment of a borough organiser responsible for local literature; and looks forward to the day when the Labour Party approach any accusations or racism against them, within their own ranks, with equal candour, rigour and effectiveness.
