That this House expresses outrage that the Government should attempt to water down health and safety standards at work through the provisions of the Deregulation and Contracting Out Bill; notes that the Health and Safety Commission is already required by law to update or repeal outdated legislation; believes that health and safety legislation requires improving and enforcing more rigorously rather than weakening; points out that the Health and Safety Report on the serious fire at Allied Colloids at Low Moor in Bradford demonstrates the need for proper application of comprehensive health and safety laws; and expresses concern that any weakening will lead to serious accidents which will endanger the lives and limbs not only of workers but of residents living close to factories such as Allied Colloids.
