Bst And Consumer Choice
EDM number 579 in 1993-94, proposed by Elliot Morley on 10/02/1994.
That this House notes the great concern at the implications of the use of the hormone synthetic BST for the welfare of cattle and fears that it will exacerbate problems of mastitis and lameness; further notes that many people object to the use of BST on ethical and welfare grounds and that consumer groups, the Women's Institute and the National Farmers Union have, in the interests of consumer choice, called for an extension of the ban on BST in dairy products until it can be labelled; is concerned at the Government's refusal to support labelling; and calls on the Government to reconsider and support real choice for consumers.
