Celtic Studies At Humboldt University

That this House notes its concern at moves to downgrade the status of Celtic Studies at Humboldt University, Berlin, and suggestions that the Celtic Studies Department may be closed down altogether; recognises the significance of the contribution of Humboldt University to Celtic Studies in the past; notes the recent invitation to Professor Hildegard Tristram to take up the post of Professor of Celtic Studies there; asserts the importance of a German university continuing to value the study of cultural and ethnic minorities in the context of the development of a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic Europe; and calls upon Humboldt University to retain Celtic Studies as a main subject in an adequately resourced department.
