Future Funding Of The Clean Up Of The Mersey Estuary

EDM number 537 in 1993-94, proposed by David Alton on 07/02/1994.

That this House is concerned by the statements attributed to a senior civil servant at the Department of the Environment that the cost of compliance with the European Urban Waste Water Directive may be prohibitive and lead to the postponement of plans to clean up the Mersey Estuary; recalls the words of the President of the Board of Trade, that the Mersey Estuary is an environmental disaster and an affront to civilised standards; commends the improvements which have taken place so far; and urges Her Majesty's Government to complete the clean up of the Mersey.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
