Road Chaos In London
EDM number 531 in 1993-94, proposed by Tony Banks on 03/02/1994.
That this House expresses its extreme concern at the appalling state of London's road system at present; notes that rush hours in the capital have become slow-moving misery for public and private vehicles alike, creating environmental pollution, deep frustration and personal stress; asks why the Government has taken no action to minimise the disruption in London through co-ordination of works being carried out on roads, tunnels and bridges; believes that privatisation and deregulation in London have exacerbated the problem; and calls upon the Government to take urgent action to control and co-ordinate road works in London, insisting wherever possible that 24-hour working be implemented, sensible alternative traffic control systems established and penalties imposed upon those undertakings which show little or no concern for the chaos they are inflicting upon Londoners.
This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
