Nottinghamshire Childcare Forum
EDM number 529 in 1993-94, proposed by Alan Meale on 03/02/1994.
That this House applauds the work of the Nottinghamshire Childcare Forum, a joint initiative between local authorities in Nottinghamshire, the private sector, local TECs and the voluntary sector, to promote the availability of childcare for the children of working parents in their county; pays particular tribute to this organisation's efforts to make childcare accessible to low-paid working parents; believes that their endeavours and others like them to provide these services would be made much easier if the Treasury would learn from the work undertaken by the Institute of Manpower Studies on behalf of the Equal Opportunities Commission, which highlighted the under-utilisation of women in the labour market in Britain; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to recognise that a reduction in the cost of pre-school childcare via individual tax allowances would enable a large number of women with children to enter the jobs market or at the very least to increase the extent of their independence and participation in it.
