Divisions Within The Liberal Democratic Party

That this House notes the serious divisions and confusions within the Liberal Democrat Party on its attitude to the banning of hunting on land owned by the Devon County Council; observes that Devon's Liberal Democrat councillors failed to act together to carry out their party's declared policy opposing hunting and were divided 20 to 19 in a recent council vote on the issue; recognises that it was only due to the unanimous vote of Labour councillors that the county council agreed on the ban, whilst 19 Liberal Democrats supported the Conservatives; and urges the Liberal Democrat Party in Devon to clarify its position on this important issue if it wishes to regain any of its credibility.
