Habitats And Species Directive

That this House is shocked to learn from the recent report, The Habitats Directive: Time for Action, produced by the World Wide Fund for Nature, that each year up to 300 supposedly protected wildlife sites are either destroyed or damaged by roadbuilding, development or pollution in the United Kingdom; further notes that if such activities continue at the same pace, the next 20 years could witness the complete destruction of Britain's natural heritage and habitats unless firm action by the Government is taken to reverse this trend; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to implement in full the EC's Habitats and Species Directive to reverse the present tide of environmental destruction.
