Recognition For Murtonians

EDM number 436 in 1993-94, proposed by John Cummings on 25/01/1994.

That this House notes with pleasure the award of the MBE to Chief Inspector Stephanie Yernshire of the Northumberland Police Force in recognition of outstanding work in social and domestic problem areas and that Chief Inspector Yernshire who was born and bred in the mining village of Murton joins a distinguished line of fellow Murtonians who have brought honour and distinction to the village both academically and through valour, namely, one VC, four DCMs, 32 MMs, three DFCs, two MCs, two DFMs, two Croix de Guerres, one KCMG, two CMGs, one OBE, three MBE's and two BEMs; and salutes the people of Murton who stand as an example of all that is good in the former mining community.
