Peterlee Crown Post Office

EDM number 435 in 1993-94, proposed by John Cummings on 25/01/1994.

That this House views with concern the action of Post Office Counters in transferring the Crown Post Office in Peterlee to a franchise operated by Safeway Stores; agrees that the district of Easington with a population of almost 100,000 should have its own Crown Post Office and that to change to a franchise will be seen as a down-grading and be detrimental in terms of the perception of the area, especially by potential new industrial investors, and in the present state of fierce competition in the retail trade could result in the demise of the franchise at some stage in the future; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to cease this policy forthwith.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
