Child Carers

That this House welcomes publication of the report, My Carer, My Child, the second part of a study by Loughborough University into the increasing incidence of children in Nottingham as the primary carers of ill or disabled parents; recognises that, throughout Britain, such care often takes place unaided and at considerable expense to the young carer's own childhood and personal development; and calls upon the Government, first, to identify how many young carers there are nationally, second, to investigate the needs and experiences of young carers and, third, to produce in consultation with relevant local and national organisations, a framework of child-centred policies to support children with primary care responsibilities.
