Conduct Of The Minister For Local Government
EDM number 426 in 1993-94, proposed by Gordon Prentice on 24/01/1994.
That this House notes that the Minister for Local Government publicly advocated the merger of Craven and Ribble Valley Councils at a time when the Local Government Commission was in the process of reviewing North Yorkshire, and that he publicly described a possible merger of Craven and Harrogate as a dead duck; and, on the grounds that he is prejudiced and has already formed a view, believes he should take no part in the Government's consideration of the local government Commission's final report on North Yorkshire, Humberside and Lincolnshire published on 24th January nor in the final report on Lancashire which will be submitted in due course.
