Hazratbal Mosque
EDM number 41 in 1993-94, proposed by Jim Lester on 19/11/1993.
That this House welcomes the peaceful resolution of the siege of the Hazratbal mosque in Jammu and Kashmir; applauds the restraint shown by the Indian authorities during the armed occupation of the mosque; condemns the cynical use of places of religious worship for political ends; believes that terrorism linked to religious fundamentalism constitutes the greatest threat to democracy; and commends the Narasimha Rao government for its commitment to secularism and to the separation of religion from politics.
