Anti-Social Tenants

That this House notes the action of Nottingham City Council in serving notice to seek possession of eight houses in council property; regrets the anti-social behaviour of a tiny minority of individuals who, after repeated requests and warnings, intentionally make such action necessary; calls upon the Lord Chancellor and the Minister for Housing to review the legislation of 1980 and 1985 which abolished the four week notice period in such cases; and notes that this underlines the need to strengthen the enforceability of tenancy agreements which allow a small number of anti-social families who may be associated with vandalism, criminal action and persistent harassment and violence towards neighbours to enter protracted, expensive and uncertain legal processes to the continuing detriment and misery of the vast majority of neighbours and residents.
