Conduct Of The Rt Hon Member For Monklands East

EDM number 373 in 1993-94, proposed by George Kynoch on 18/01/1994.

That this House calls upon the Right honourable Member for Monklands East to explain to the House what action, if any, he has taken to protect his constituent Mr Thomas MacFarlane, formerly a storeman at Monklands District Council, who was allegedly sacked because he criticised the secretary of the local Labour Party; further notes the claims of Labour councillors Peter Sullivan, Brian Brady and James Logue that the Director of Leisure and Recreation, Mr James Dempsey, has been directed by the Labour Group Leader to sack Mr MacFarlane and that no alternative work should be offered to him because political revenge was the over-riding motive; further asks the Right honourable Member to explain when he first knew about what had happened to Mr MacFarlane, to list what meetings he has had over the last two years with the Labour Leader of Monklands District Council, and to publish all correspondence he or his staff had with councillors, council officials and Labour Party officials concerning Mr MacFarlane.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
