COLOMBIA'S CHILD MINERS

That this House congratulates the BBC Newsround Extra film crew for its excellent exposure of the illegal use of children in coal mines in Colombia; notes that, contrary to some previous British press reports, the film shows that children of 10 years of age and under are engaged in the production of coal in mines 250 metres below ground; is horrified that the Colombian Government continues to allow children to work in such inhumane, Dickensian conditions; demands that the Colombian Ambassador draws the attention of the Colombian Government to these revolting, dangerous working practices which should be outlawed; calls upon the British Government to end the importation of Colombian coal; and finally thanks the Swiss charity Sentinelles for all its efforts to provide these young children with opportunities to leave the mines before their young lives are ended.
