Staffordshire Ambulance: Patient Transport Services
EDM number 301 in 1993-94, proposed by Joan Walley on 16/12/1993.
That this House places on record its appreciation of the loyal and conscientious service provided by the ambulance workers in Staffordshire; notes that the new contract agreed between the North Staffordshire Hospital Trust and the West Midlands Ambulance Trust will lead to far inferior conditions of employment and rates of pay for the workforce concerned, including a reduction in the hourly rate of pay from ú4,82 to ú3.89 or ú3.26 as from 1st April 1994 when the contract transfers to West Midlands Ambulance Trust; believes that service standards will be lowered, and that tendering arrangements will undermine the long term viability of the Staffordshire Accident and Emergency Ambulance Service; considers that there should have been written into this tendering procedure a commitment to abide by existing European directives and United Kingdom employment legislation; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to ensure that the contract be withdrawn in order that it can be redrawn and relet in such a way that the Secretary of State for Health can give an undertaking to this House that United Kingdom legislation in respect of the transfer of undertakings is adhered to in respect of the National Health Service at all times.
