Merseyside Fire And Civil Defence Authority: Withholding Of Inspection Report
EDM number 300 in 1993-94, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 16/12/1993.
That this House, being aware that the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority has repeatedly indicated that its standard spending assessment is inadequate to finance the execution of its statutory responsibilities, notes with alarm that the Home Secretary, after Her Majesty's Territorial Inspector of Fire Services had carried out his routine annual inspection of the Merseyside Fire Brigade in February 1993, deemed it necessary to order a re-inspection following the publication of the 1993-94 budget of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence authority, is concerned that despite assurances from the Home Secretary that the report would be published, to date it remains outside the public domain; finds intolerable this continued secrecy over matters concerning the protection of the people of Merseyside against fire and other emergencies; and demands that the Home Secretary should immediately direct that this report be made freely available to the Chief Fire Officer and the Chairman and elected members of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority as a matter of the utmost urgency.
