United Nations And Sudan
EDM number 270 in 1993-94, proposed by David Alton on 15/12/1993.
That this House is appalled at the persecution and discrimination against Christians and other religious and racial minorities in Sudan and the widespread suffering caused by its long-running civil war, effects of which include famine and the indiscriminate bombing of civilians by government forces; urges the United Nations Secretary General to co-ordinate an international effort to bring peace to that country; and calls upon the British Government to raise these issues at the United Nations Security Council as a matter of priority and to encourage the Security Council to play a key role in ending Sudan's civil war and safeguarding the human rights of its religious and racial minorities.
