Enfranchisement Of Women And 90th Anniversary Of Woolwich Labour Party

That this House notes that 14th December marks the 75th Anniversary of the election of the first woman to Parliament, Constance Markievicz; notes that this event took place 15 years after the honourable Member for Woolwich, Will Crooks, first introduced a Bill for the Enfranchisement of Women which he had campaigned for in the Woolwich by-election of 1903; further notes that the press, at the time, regarded Will Crooks' victory as the first manifestation to the public of the birth of the political Labour Party and that the Speaker of the day described it as the greatest by-election victory of modern times; and congratulates the Woolwich Labour Party on its 90th anniversary and its continue struggle for equality.
