Mis-Selling Of Personal Pensions

EDM number 261 in 1993-94, proposed by John Denham on 14/12/1993.

That this House notes the SIB inquiry into the mis-selling of personal pensions to members of occupational pension schemes but expresses its concern that all the blame will be placed onto individual salespeople who were dependent on commisison for income, that other members of personal pension schemes will be required to fund compensation through reduced investment returns or increased charges, and that those directors of insurance companies and regulators who allowed this scandal to develop will not be required to bear personal responsibility; and therefore urges her Majesty's Government to ensure that these concerns are misplaced.
