Opposition Tactics Since 1979

EDM number 256 in 1993-94, proposed by Alex Salmond on 14/12/1993.

That this House notes with approval the decision of the Labour Party to begin opposing the Government by vigorous parliamentary action; questions what has been happening over the last 14 years, which has seen many abuses of democracy; recalls the attacks by the Labour leadership on those honourable Members who argued for the adoption of such tactics to secure a Scottish Parliament; and calls for a clear statement from the Labour leadership that the suspension of their cosy relationship with the Government through the usual channels will at least continue until such time as the Government allows the people of Scotland to determine their own future in a constitutional referendum.
