Chairman Of The Welsh Consumer Council

That this House calls on the Prime Minister to request the resignation of Miss Beata Brookes from the post of the Chairman of the Welsh Consumer Council following his nomination of her to be the Welsh representative on the Economic and Social Committee of the European Communities given that she already has the duties of being Chairman of the Conservative Party in Wales; remains as convinced as the staff of the Welsh Consumer Council that the job of chairing that Council should always be seen to be strictly non-political, totally impartial and completely dedicated to the defence of the interests of the ordinary citizen consumer against big business and by government, and thereby wholly incompatible with Miss Brookes' other role as the chief political party representative of the Conservatives in Wales.
