Postponement Of Thorp

EDM number 246 in 1993-94, proposed by Simon Hughes on 13/12/1993.

That this House believes that it would be quite wrong for any decision to be taken to give the go-ahead for THORP before, first, final decisions are made on the complaints made to the European Commission that the project will breach Directive 85/337/EEC covering the environmental impact assessment of the plant and Euratom Directive 80/836 which requires that any exposure to ionising radiation must be justified by the advantages and, second, the Secretary of State for Scotland makes a decision on the proposed spent fuel store at Torness and publishes the report of the public inquiry, which apparently indicates that reprocessing is not the best option for the disposal of nuclear waste.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
