Protection Of Horses And Other Animals During Transport

That this House, while welcoming the principle of subsidiarity, is most concerned that civilised standards of equine and other animal welfare should be observed throughout the EC; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government strenuously to oppose French government proposals to weaken EEC draft proposals on humane periods for feeding and watering horses being transported for slaughter, these proposals being for longer intervals than every 10 to 15 hours for watering and every 22 hours for feeding.
