Proposed Closure Of Edgware General Hospital

EDM number 216 in 1993-94, proposed by John Gorst on 08/12/1993.

That this House is deeply concerned at the proposals to close Edgware General Hospital in the London Borough of Barnet; recalls that the Edgware General Hospital has been providing outstanding health care services for 65 years; notes that if it closes, those many residents of Burnt Oak and Colindale who rely upon public transport, and they are the two Barnet wards most in need of health care services, could face journeys of over an hour to their nearest hospital; regrets that recent large-scale investments in Edgware General Hospital will be wasted if the hospital closes; insists that the care of the sick should take precedence over the dogma of bureaucrats; particularly notes that the site of the Edgware General Hospital is of greater value than that of Barnet General Hospital; and calls on Her Majesty's Government not to sacrifice the universal public desire for an Edgware-based hospital on the altar of short-term expediency, irespective of whether such closure is dictated by financial doctrine or by administrative convenience.
