Plain English Campaign Golden Bull Award To Welsh Office
EDM number 180 in 1993-94, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 06/12/1993.
That this House draws the attention of the Secretary of State for Wales to the awarding of the Golden Bull prize awarded by the Plain English Campaign to his Department's National Health Service Directorate for taking 167 words to define the meaning of the word 'bed'; notes with further concern that this supreme example of bureaucratic jargon in all its contortions was produced by the Value for Money Unit within that Directorate; and suggests forcibly that the Secretary of State for Wales should cease to preach on the subject of the use of plain English in relation to the Health Service or any other service until he has got the Welsh Office to mend its ways.
