Conduct Of The South Glamorgan Health Authority (No. 2)
EDM number 179 in 1993-94, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 06/12/1993.
That this House condemns the conduct of the South Glamorgan Health Authority in suspending Alan Trew, the then Unit Manager of the Cardiff Royal Group of Hospitals, for allegedly overspending but more honestly for speaking out about the funding problems of the National Health Service in Wales; notes further that Mr Trew has refused to submit to the bullying tactics of the Health Authority and has taken the Authority to an industrial tribunal for unfair dismissal; notes that the Authority abjectly withdrew its defence on the morning of the Tribunal on 6th December and made an agreed settlement, inclusive of all his costs, to Mr Trew; and believes this should act as an inspiration to all whistle-blowers in the National Health Service and likewise as a warning to all bossy bureaucrats in the public sector.
