Hospital Chaplains

That this House notes that there are 260 full-time and thousands of part-time hospital chaplains who provide vital pastoral services to patients in all National Health Service hospitals; further notes that health authorities and general practitioner fundholders are asking hospital chaplains to put a price on the work they do; believes that this represents the free market gone mad; further believes that no price can be put on the spiritual help and support provided by hospital chaplains; and, therefore, calls on health authorities and fundholders to ensure that as a consequence of this move no patient or their relatives should be without the spiritual and pastoral support they want and need and the consequent aid to recovery that such support often provides.
