Nature Conservation And Protection Of Areas Of Special Scientific Interest

That this House expresses concern that more than 700 of the most valuable wildlife sites in England and Wales are threatened with damage or destruction; welcomes the publication of Gaining Interest by Friends of the Earth; welcomes the proposed Wildlife Bill drafted by Friends of the Earth and launched by senior figures from the Government's former official advisory body, the Nature Conservancy Council; believes that it should be given serious consideration by the Government; and calls for early legislation to close the loopholes in the Wildlife and Countryside Act which permit damage to hundreds of important sites for nature conservation including sites of special scientific interest.
