Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam And World Bank Responsibility

That this House recognises the legal and moral responsibility of the World Bank for the well-being of the hundreds of thousands of people to be displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam; acknowledges the letter of 24th November to the President of the World Bank from 70 representatives of non-governmental organisations from 14 countries calling on International Development Association sector credits to India to be made conditional upon compliance with the resettlement conditions in the loan agreements for the dam which are still legally binding, despite the cessation of World Bank funding; and calls on the United Kingdom Delegation to the World Bank to urge the Bank to comply with the demands made in the letter.
