Welsh Office Agricultural Departments

EDM number 1600 in 1993-94, proposed by Jon Owen Jones on 18/10/1994.

That this House recognises that the proposal to remove Section 3 of the Welsh Office Agricultural Department from the Aberystwyth area will reduce the quality of service to agriculture and significantly damage the economy of northern Ceredigion, that it is entirely inconsistent with the avowed strategy of revitalising the economy of mid-Wales through the activity of the Development Board for Rural Wales, and the grant-making powers of local authorities and that a strategy of dispersing rather than concentrating public administration is crucial for the spread of economic prosperity throughout Wales; and supports the call of the Campaign Committee representing local authorities, trades unions, farmers' unions and others that the Secretary of State for Wales reverse the decision.
